Tis the Season...

Tis the Season....

For Gift Giving....

For Helping the Needy....

For Giving Children a Christmas....

This blogger has been quiet as of late, but not because the Mendenhall Flying Lions haven't been busy. A lot of what we do is behind the scenes, giving donations, quietly doing what we do.

Several Lions "rang the bell" this last weekend.  Salvation Army bell, that is.  A huge thanks to Lions Bob and Donna Hurley, Susan Albury, and Mike Norton for taking time out of their busy holiday schedules to do this!  We had the opportunity to present a check to them as well.

This holiday season our monetary and gift giving focus has been on children and we chose several agencies to give to.

The Juneau Police Department's "Shop With a Cop" program takes local children shopping for their families.  In the past, the schools nominated a child but this year locals could nominate a child in need.  Juneau Police take each child to Walmart to shop for their family and, at some point, they will find out what the child also wants for Christmas and then return to Walmart to purchase it for the child.  I think this is a great program and worthy of our donation.

Lions Bob and Donna Hurley hosted our annual Christmas party and each member was asked to bring a toy that would be donated to St. Vincents, along with our financial donation, to help provide a Merry Christmas to the children who live in the facility.

This year we also donated to the AWARE Center to go towards children in that housing facility.  (The AWARE Center houses battered women who may reside there with their children.)

There's so many needy families and causes that could use our help this time of year...  The worst part of the season is we can't help them all....

We Serve
